Perhaps you heard that we’re now doing Improvention every two years, because that’s how long it takes us all to recover! Well, YES AND NO! In 2026, thanks to popular demand, we’re doing it!!! We’re just running a slightly different model that gives you things you won’t get at the standard version of the festival, but keeps us, here at Improvention Central in Canberra, same and viable 😉 And you can say you were part of the very first one!

And so, full details of 2026, are here, and you can get in early for the best results!

Impro INvention – What is it?

  • THIS TIME, you are guaranteed to perform in a mainstage show resulting from an intensive, if you choose…, OR TWO! AND, you will be one of the format inventors, led by super format creating tutors, so everyone can do it. It’s the dream Improvention result.

  • THIS TIME, you choose how many days you can attend (Monday to Friday, Tuesday to Sunday), but still get that guarantee, assuming a multi-day visit including at least one weekday.

  • THIS TIME, you can do an intensive with one group and one top tutor for that period, and since they’re half days each day, you can also choose to do a second intensive with another group and another tutor of any number of days.

  • THIS TIME, ALL the formats that result from these intensives will be ORIGINALS. You’ll be the first to do it, and always one of the inventors of that format.

  • OR THIS TIME, you can choose an increased social and networking program, to spend half the day directly learning improv, and half the day in social or professional networking activity, seeing the sights of Canberra. It’s like an improv holiday or as intensive as ever, as you choose.

  • AND THIS TIME, we see all those mainstage shows that result from the intensives on the Friday or Saturday evening, with lighter inclusive shows to jump into earlier in the week, and a summer party only finish for as long as you can stay on the Sunday, with opportunity for summer water activities, bbq, and yes, of course, karaoke and open mic stuff.

  • YOU EVEN still get a chance to add a one-off workshop or two with a different tutor on the weekend, to add that little bit of variety or to fix any FOMO.

  • The price will be a bit cheaper if you book a package or grab a deposit, now, and with our secure PayPal portal, you can even choose to pay anything in four instalments.

  • Your merch will be a little cheaper, and casting in our lighter, open-casting shows is prioritised, and a few other perks will be thrown in along the way, as best we can.

Impro INvention 2026 Any-Package Deposit

  • Your deposit on an Impro INvention workshop and show package for participant improvisers. As packages are released during the year, you’ll only need to pay the remainder of the total and you’ll get whichever package you choose, and at the price it was on the date you paid the deposit.

  • Most importantly, at Impro INvention we’ll have as many amazing format invention tutor/directors as dictated by the number of participants, and your early deposit gives you priority choice of who to do your intensive with, and helps us increase the overall number we hire. They’ll all be good one, again!

  • Obviously, we can only take a certain number of participants in each intensive, right? Make a deposit now, and you’ll receive your booking number, which is the priority order in which participants can select from when tutors are announced.

  • All multi-day packages will include tickets to see the performances of the other intensive groups on the Friday and Saturday night.

Impro INvention 2026 Multi-Day Starter Kit

All Earlybird Package Options (all fully upgradable to add more stuff at Early Bird rates)

Buy this now if you think you’ll come for at least three days or more, including at least one weekday (noting that mainstage shows resulting from your workshop intensive choices are all performed on the Friday or Saturday, but involvement in lighter shows is still possible earlier in the week, and you are not obligated to perform – just guaranteed the opportunity). Buy one of these now, if you want to get highest on the list for priority tutor choices, lighter show castings, even though you realise that we haven’t released the full artist list or the workshop list or the show schedule yet. You do know, however, that there will be multiple world-class options every morning and every afternoon on all workshop days, with shows and jams and social events on every night, or you’ve heard about or witnessed an Improvention before, so you also know this is the best value and safest bet for a week you’ll never forget…..

Three Day Basic

Get me on for a 3 x half-day workshop intensive resulting in a show, but with half a day off, each day on average, where I can add social or networking events (many free), choose which days and which tutor later,  (or I can get two of these packages and do two tutors on different halves of the day and two resulting shows). Australia’s original and largest gathering of improvisers from Australasia and around the globe. 7 days and nights to convene, connect, workshop, perform, party, fall in love.

Canberra International Improv Festival

The name by which the general public knows and interacts with Improvention, so they can come to shows, or maybe take a beginners’ workshop.

General public wishing to see what we’re up to, and witness what no-one would think is possible in improvised performance, should book directly at venues  and on dates to be announces!

Participant packages

Suitable for anyone who has completed at least a fundamental recognised impro-specific course, and adjustable as new events are added. The sooner you buy the better the deal.
