Theatresports™ - North vs South returns to the Street Theatre in 2012 for four Saturdays between 14 April and 5 May to decide which side of the lake will have the bragging rights for the next 12 months. Will the Northside defend their title or will the South finally rise up?

At the family-friendly time of 7:30pm, Canberrans will be able to revel in a night of entertainment fit for the Colosseum as teams of Theatrical Gladiators from each side of the lake compete with the same vigour as a State of Origin clash. Teams of improvisers will compete in a series of challenges resulting in comedy, theatre and music created at will to the roar of the crowd.

Theatresports™ is a fast and fun-filled theatre ride which combines wit, comedy, drama and fearless public performance. Given that Canberra houses some of the country’s quickest thinkers who are capable of providing extremely creative answers to the curliest of queries it is appropriate that Theatresports™ is used to settle Canberra’s most important question – ‘Which side of the lake is best?’

This band plays reality theatre. You create original song titles. The band creates the songs, right on the spot. Be a fly on the wall as a rehearsal ensues, and discover how each band member feels about; each other, public issues, and their music. Be a fan, as the concert follows, and see how their public face changes. What will be hidden and what revealed? Music rules OK, but in a band, it's always a drama.

This Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, you will have the opportunity to see a brand new show come to life.

All this week, improvisers from Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra are working on devising a brand new show format. This format will then be trialled in small scale performances this weekend with a view to the show being included as a feature presentation at Improvention 2012 – a festival of Improvisation – to be held from Sat 30 June to Sun 8 July.

The show will be inspired by ‘Colours’ as that is the performance program theme for Improvention 2012.
